A short history

The Volks Electric Railway (135 years old) was invented by Magnus Volk (1851 – 1937), Volk was the first person on the south coast to fit electric lights. Magnus’s most famous invention was the Volks Electric Railway. In 1883 he built a small line going along the seafront of Brighton for the train

Pioneer (Daddy Long Legs)

During 1892 the railway was successfully operational as a result Magnus developed his work and extended the line towards Rottingdean. There were steep cliffs along the way and so, a train carriage was built on stilts above the water, hence earning the name Daddy Long Legs.

The Experience

The railway can carry up to 80 passengers along the beach for a mile. The starting point of the journey is from Aquarium Station to Black Rock (Marina) and will take roughly 12 minutes.
